It is amazing that Dentists and Dental Labs can prep, design, manufacture and insert a crown or bridge with such a high success rate of proper fit. There are dozens of steps in the process, any of which can affect the outcome. What has proven to be the most important part of a successful process is communication.
Here are some items that Labs and Dr.’s can discuss for their mutual benefit:
New Materials – For example: Cement, Stone, Impression Material – “We changed ___. This might affect fit. Let’s monitor the next few cases.”
New Processes – Impression Procedure, Manufacturing location or method – “We are doing it this way now. Have you seen a change?”
New People – “We are training a new _____, and are following his/her work. Can you let us know if any concerns arise?”
Communication can reduce need for adjustment or remakes, save chair time and lab bench time, and improve patient satisfaction. Have you seen this in your lab or practice?
